Occupational therapist · Kent & online

Coaching that turns intention into action.

You already know what you want to change. The hard part is starting, and then keeping going. I work with you to close the gap between the two, using eighteen years of practice helping people do the things that matter to them.

The gap

Knowing what to do is rarely the problem.

Most people arrive with a clear goal and a long history of not getting to it. That is not a character flaw. It usually means the goal has not yet been shaped to fit the life it has to live in.

The plan that never starts

The gym membership, the course, the business idea. It stays a good idea because the first step was never small enough to actually take.

Busy, but not moving

Your days are full and your goals are untouched. Everything urgent keeps beating everything important.

Started, then stopped

Two good weeks, then life happened and the whole thing fell over. Nothing was built to survive a bad week.

How it works

A clear route from where you are to what you want.

Occupational therapy is the science of helping people do things. That is the whole discipline. Coaching with me borrows the same method and points it at your goals.

  1. A free first assessment

We talk properly about what you want to change, what you have already tried and what tends to get in the way. No charge and no obligation to book anything afterwards. Plenty of people find this session alone gives them something useful.

  2. We build the plan around your actual life

Not the life you would have if you had more time, energy or money. We work with your real week, your real commitments and your real energy levels, and we make the first step small enough that you will take it.

  3. Regular sessions to keep the momentum

We review what worked, adjust what did not, and set the next steps. Having a fixed point in the diary where you say out loud what you have done is, for most people, the single biggest change.

  4. You keep going without me

The aim is not to need a coach forever. By the end you should have a way of setting and getting to goals that works when nobody is checking.

What people bring

The goal is yours. The method is mine.

People come with all sorts of things. Some common ones:

  • Career changes and difficult decisions
  • Getting out from under a backlog
  • Recovering from burnout
  • Building an exercise habit that lasts
  • Boundaries between work and home
  • Finishing the thing you started
  • Studying alongside a full time job
  • Structure after a big life change
  • Procrastination and avoidance
  • Managing energy, not just time
  • Getting a side project off the ground
  • Daily routines that hold up

About

Michael

A qualified occupational therapist from Kent, with more than eighteen years of helping people do the things that matter to them.

Occupational therapists spend their careers on one question: what is stopping this person doing what they need and want to do, and what would make it possible? For eighteen years I have asked that question in clinical settings, with people facing every kind of obstacle, and watched what actually works.

The Doing Coach takes that same practice out of the clinic. The people I coach are not unwell. They are capable, often very capable, and stuck on something specific. The method is the same: understand the person, understand the goal, find the real barrier, then build something that fits.

I work with clients in person across Kent and online with people anywhere in the UK.

Questions

Before you get in touch.

Is this therapy?

No. Coaching is forward looking and practical: we work on what you want to do and how to get you doing it. My occupational therapy training shapes how I do that, but this is not treatment and it is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If something comes up in our work that would be better handled by another professional, I will say so.

What actually happens in the free assessment?

We talk. I will ask about what you want to change, what you have tried, what your week actually looks like and where things tend to break down. You will leave with a clear sense of what is getting in the way and what a plan might look like. There is no obligation to book anything.

Do I have to be in Kent?

No. I see clients in person around Kent and work online with people anywhere in the UK. Online sessions work well for this kind of coaching, and they make it much easier to keep a regular slot.

How often should sessions be?

It depends on what you are working on. Fortnightly suits most people: close enough to keep momentum, far enough apart to actually get something done between sessions. We will agree a rhythm at the assessment and change it if it is not working.

What if I book a block and then need to stop?

Talk to me. Blocks are meant to make things easier and cheaper, not to trap anyone. If your circumstances change we will sort something sensible out.

What if I have tried coaching before and it did not stick?

That is worth bringing to the assessment, because it tells us something useful. Often what did not stick was a plan built for an idealised week rather than a real one. Working out why the last approach failed is a genuinely good place to start.
